    Ingredients You'll Need

Labeled ingredients for the nice cream.
    • Frozen Bananas: Frozen bananas are the base of this nice cream, providing a creamy texture and natural sweetness. Make sure to use ripe bananas, as they will be sweeter and easier to blend.
    • Peanut Butter: Adds a rich and nutty flavor to the nice cream, as well as some protein and healthy fats. You can use creamy or crunchy peanut butter, depending on your preference.
    • Cocoa Powder: Adds a rich and chocolatey flavor to the nice cream, without adding any additional sugar or fat.
    • Unsweetened Almond Milk: Adds a creamy texture to the nice cream, without adding any dairy or extra calories.

    Equipment

    • Blender or food processor
    • Spatula or wooden spoon to scrape down the mixture in the blender
    • Freezer-safe container to store the finished ice cream (these little ones with silicone lids are great for small batches of homemade ice cream, and for any other things you might might want to freeze)

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Steps to make the nice cream.

Step 1: In a high speed blender or food processor, combine the frozen bananas, peanut butter, cocoa powder, and almond milk.

Step 2: Blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the blender as needed. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash more almond milk to help it blend.

Step 3: Once the nice cream is smooth, transfer it to a freezer-safe container and freeze for 1-2 hours, or until firm.

Step 4: When ready to serve, let the nice cream sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften. Scoop into bowls and enjoy!

NOTE: You can print the FULL recipe with all ingredients & detailed instructions below!

    Two dishes of nice cream.

    Expert Tips

    • Use ripe bananas. Make sure to use ripe bananas that are spotty and sweet, as this will give the nice cream a natural sweetness and a creamier texture.
    • Freeze the bananas ahead of time. Peel the ripe bananas and freeze them for at least 2-3 hours before making the nice cream. This will make the nice cream smooth and creamy.
    • Use a high-speed blender or food processor. A high-speed blender or food processor is essential to make the nice cream smooth and creamy.
    • Freeze the nice cream before serving. After blending the nice cream, freeze it for 1-2 hours to allow it to firm up. This will give it a better texture and make it easier to scoop.
    • If you want to skip the freezing time after blending, one option is to freeze almond milk in ice cube trays and blend those into the nice cream. It will be thicker and not as liquidy immediately after blending.

    Variations

    • Add protein powder: You can add a scoop of your favorite protein powder to the nice cream to boost the protein content and make it even more filling.
    • Use different nut butters: Try using different nut butters, such as almond butter or cashew butter, to give the nice cream a different flavor.
    • Add fruit: Add fresh or frozen fruit, such as strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries, to the nice cream to add extra sweetness and flavor.
    • Use different milks: You can use different types of milk, such as coconut milk or soy milk, to give the nice cream a different flavor and texture.
    • Add chocolate chips: Add a handful of chocolate chips to the nice cream before freezing to give it a little crunch and extra chocolatey flavor.

    Storing

You can store chocolate peanut butter nice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1-2 weeks. To prevent freezer burn and maintain the texture of the nice cream, make sure to press a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper onto the surface of the nice cream before closing the lid.

    Recipe FAQ's

Can I make this recipe without a high-speed blender or food processor?

It's recommended to use a high-speed blender or food processor to make the nice cream smooth and creamy. However, you can try using a regular blender or food processor, and just be patient and scrape down the sides frequently.

Can I add sugar or sweetener to this recipe?

The ripe bananas and peanut butter already provide natural sweetness, but if you prefer a sweeter nice cream, you can add a small amount of honey, maple syrup, or a sugar-free sweetener of your choice.

Can I use frozen peanut butter instead of fresh peanut butter?

No, frozen peanut butter will not blend well and may cause the nice cream to become chunky. It's best to use fresh peanut butter for this recipe.

With Hubs' recent gallbladder issue, I've been looking for a lower fat way to make ice cream. I think this "nice cream" will work well. I've just started to develop lower fat and lower sugar recipes for my blog too.
