If you are looking for a simple 4th of July dessert, look no further. This red white and blue Jello dessert is low in calories and a crowd pleaser.
Happy Independence Day! Today we plan on doing some grilling since that it what we typically do on summer holidays. We also plan to get some sparklers and little fireworks for the kids too.
This red, white and blue Jello dessert is perfect for a warm day because it’s light and chilled, so no cooking required. I love desserts that are no-bake and simple.
Why you’ll love this recipe
- Perfect patriotic treat
- Low in calories and carbs
- Easy to make ahead for parties or family fun
What you’ll need to make this recipe.
- Sugar-free strawberry Jello
How to make this recipe
1 – Make the Jello according the the package and split it up between 4 cups.
2 – Place Jello in the fridge. It takes several hours for Jello to set up, but once it’s done it’s ready to go.
3 – When you’re ready to eat the Jello, top with whipped cream and your favorite fruit. I like to use strawberries and blueberries because they are in season and are festive for the holiday.
If you are going to serve this for an afternoon or evening treat, I recommend getting started first thing in the morning since Jello takes some time to chill and set up in the fridge.
There are methods to expedite the chilling process, such as adding ice to the Jello mixture when preparing. All the information is right on the box.
I used the original Reddi-Whip for my dessert, but they also offer non-dairy options made with almond or coconut milk.
What are the benefits to eating gelatin?
Gelatin is made by boiling animal bones, cartilage, and skin to extract the collagen. When collagen is processed, it becomes a flavorless, colorless substance called gelatin. After gelatin cools, it has a jelly-like texture.
Gelatin dissolves in hot water, which collagen does not do, making the texture practical to use in sauces, soups, and desserts. The health benefits of gelatin are similar to the benefits of collagen since gelatin contains the same amino acids.
Tip: If making these to serve for a party or gathering, they can be made in paper or plastic cups. This way you don’t have to worry about any of your dishes getting broken, especially if at an outdoor event.
How long can I store jello?
Prepared Jello will last about 7-10 days in the refrigerator.
