This low calorie French toast is a simple recipe made by dunking whole wheat bread into an egg mixture. The French toast gets golden and crispy in the skillet and will have your kitchen smelling so good!

You can drizzle some sugar free maple syrup over the French toast, or top with some fresh fruit for extra flavor. This filling breakfast is just as amazing as a classic French toast recipe.

    Tips

    • Whole grain or whole wheat bread is the best bread with a slightly denser texture. It adds nutritional value and also holds up well when soaked in the egg mixture.
    • Make sure your cooking surface is greased with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
    • Keep an eye on the French toast while cooking and flip them when they're golden brown.
    • Use only egg whites instead of whole eggs if you don't want to use the egg yolks.
    • Add your favorite French toast toppings like peanut butter or chocolate chips for a sweet breakfast.
    • Stir a scoop of your favorite low calorie protein powder into the egg mixture. This is a great way to amp up the protein content without adding many calories.

Frequently Asked Questions About Low Calorie French Toast

Can I use a different type of bread?

Absolutely! You can experiment with different types of bread like multigrain, thick slices of bread,  your favorite gluten free bread, brioche bread, or even a low calorie bread option.

Can I use a different type of milk?

Yes, you can use other low calorie milk alternatives like fat free milk, soy, oat, or coconut. Keep in mind that the flavor and consistency might vary slightly.

    How do I store leftovers?

If you have leftover French toast, allow it to cool to room temperature. Then, place the cooked French toast slices in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

    How do I freeze leftovers?

Allow the cooked French toast to cool completely at room temperature before freezing. Lay the individual slices on a baking sheet in a single layer and place it in the freezer for about 1-2 hours. Once the slices are partially frozen, wrap each slice separately in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Place the wrapped slices in an airtight freezer bag or container. Store in the freezer for up to 1-2 months.
