Low calorie bang bang shrimp
This is one of my favorite dinner hacks: quick pan‑seared shrimp tossed in the easiest light bang bang sauce made from just two ingredients—light mayo and your favorite chili paste or chili crisp.
The sauce is creamy with a gentle kick (or a big one if you go heavy on the chili). And the combo of crisp lettuce leaves and tender shrimp just works. It’s fresh, satisfying, and so simple to throw together.

Ingredients
- 1 pound raw shrimp, thawed if frozen, deveined and tails removed
- ½ teaspoon seasoned salt (or old bay seasoning or you favorite shrimp seasoning)
- oil spray
- ¼ cup light mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon chili paste or chili crisp, or to taste (or use sweet chili sauce for a much milder flavor)
- ~6-12 lettuce leaves, gently rinsed and patted dry carefully. The amount of leaves you need will depend on the size and the type of lettuce you use (I double up butter lettuce, such as Bibb or Boston; or I use 1 Romaine leaf per wrap)
- 1 scallion, diced, or use other toppings, such as toasted sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning

Instructions
Heat a large skillet, spray with cooking spray, add the shrimp, and sprinkle with seasoned salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until cooked through, stirring frequently.

In a medium bowl, combine the mayo with chili paste. Add the shrimp and stir until coated in sauce.

Make your lettuce wraps: If using a delicate lettuce like Boston or Butter, double up the lettuce leaves. If using Romaine or a similar lettuce, use 1 leaf. Add a few tablespoons of bang bang shrimp to each lettuce wrap, top with scallions or your favorite toppings, and enjoy immediately!

Kate's cooking tips
- I like to use small or medium raw shrimp, so the bites are smaller and more manageable.
- If using butter lettuce for lettuce wraps, I like to double up or even triple the lettuce leaves because butter lettuce is delicate and tears easily. As a bonus, you get more veggies/nutrition in every bite! If using Romaine, I only use 1 leaf per wrap.
- Regular mayo can be used, if you prefer that over light mayo.
- You can add a little lime juice to the bang bang shrimp sauce if you like.
What to serve with bang bang shrimp lettuce wraps
If you want to make a meal out of these shrimp lettuce wraps but still want to keep it light, add a side dish. An Asian-inspired cucumber-edamame salad or some air fryer butternut squash would make a great side dish.
Another option is to serve this shrimp over riced cauliflower with another veggie instead of lettuce wraps.
