- Salt: Salt adds flavor to the fish and helps the seasoning adhere to the exterior.
- Ground Black Pepper: The black pepper contributes a subtle spiciness to the dish.
- Egg: The egg acts as a binding agent in order to help hold the coating together.
- Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips: These chips provide a delicious crunchy and salty flavor.
- Boneless, Skinless Tilapia Fillets: Tilapia is a light, mild whitefish that absorbs seasonings easily when cooked in an air fryer.
- Tartar Sauce, optional: Adding tartar sauce provides an extra tangy flavor for dipping the fish bites in!

Expert Tips
Need a few extra tips to help you get this recipe right? Check out these tips for making fish and chips in the air fryer even better!
- Make sure to coat your fish and chips in a light layer of oil before placing them in the air fryer. This will help them crisp up and give them a delicious golden-brown color.
- To ensure that your fish and chips cook evenly, arrange them so that they are not overlapping each other in the Air Fryer basket.
- Be careful not to overcrowd the basket. If you put too many pieces in at once, they won’t be able to cook properly and will become soggy instead of crispy.
- Once the first batch has been cooked, transfer it onto a plate lined with kitchen paper to absorb any excess oil. This will help keep your fish and chips crispy for longer!
Variations
- Use different types of fish in your air fryer fish and chips. Try haddock, cod, or salmon for a variety of flavors.
- Mix up the breadcrumbs you use to coat the fish. From panko to ready-made coating mixes, there are lots of options available.
- Add some herbs or spices to the crumb mix for an extra flavor boost. Try smoked paprika, garlic powder, and dried oregano for a delicious result.
- Switch out the traditional chips for sweet potato chips for a healthier and equally delicious alternative!
Storing & Freezing
Storing: Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container. They will last for 2-3 days. To reheat, place your prepared fish and chips in the air fryer at 400 ℉ for 3-4 minutes.
Freezing: Freezing is not recommended.
