Watermelon is a summer staple. If you're enjoying it as much as we are, then you might find yourself looking for more ways to use it up. Cut the watermelon up into cubes, freeze, and turn it into a delicious milkshake.

This milkshake only has three ingredients and you can have it ready to sip in under five minutes.

Milkshake in a glass with a watermelon wedge garnish.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • The perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day.
    • Very quick with only 3 ingredients.
    • Light, creamy, refreshing, and super simple to make.

    Ingredients You'll Need

    Labeled ingredients for the milkshake.
    • Watermelon: Cut into cubes before freezing.
    • Coconut Milk: Gives the milkshake a super rich texture.
    • Sweetener: Use whatever sweetener you like. Honey, maple syrup, or sugar are all good.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

    Steps to make the milkshake.

Step 1: Cut the watermelon into cubes and freeze. Make sure to cut away the peel and seeds.

Step 2: Place the watermelon cubes in a blender. Add sweetener, then pour in milk. Blend until smooth and serve immediately.

    Expert Tips

    • Use fresh and ripe watermelon for the best flavor. The sweetness of the watermelon will make a big difference in the overall taste of the milkshake.
    • Make sure to freeze the watermelon cubes beforehand. This will give the milkshake a thicker, creamier texture and will also help keep it chilled.
    • Adjust the amount of sugar to your personal preference. If your watermelon is very sweet, you may not need to add much sugar at all. Taste the milkshake as you go and adjust accordingly.
    • For an even creamier texture, try using canned coconut milk instead of carton coconut milk. The higher fat content of canned coconut milk will make the milkshake richer and creamier.

    Variations

    • Add fresh mint or basil leaves to the blender for a refreshing and herbaceous twist on the classic watermelon milkshake.
    • For a tropical twist, substitute the coconut milk with pineapple juice and add a splash of lime juice for a sweet and tangy flavor.
    • Boost the protein content of your milkshake by adding a scoop of your favorite protein powder to the blender.
    • Add a handful of frozen strawberries to the blender for a fruity and pink-colored watermelon strawberry milkshake.
    • Substitute the coconut milk with almond milk or cashew milk for a nutty flavor.

    Storing & Freezing

Storing: I highly recommend drinking the milkshake immediately, but you can store it for 1 day in the refrigerator.

Freezing: Place the milkshake in an airtight freezer safe container and store in the freezer up to 2 months. Place it in the fridge about 20 minutes or so before drinking to thaw a bit.

    Recipe FAQ's

Can I add other fruits to this milkshake?

Yes! Watermelon tastes great with its fellow melons such as honeydew and cantaloupe. Sweet and slightly sour tasting fruits like strawberries and pineapple will also blend well with it.

What is the best way to sweeten a milkshake?

You can use honey, maple syrup, sugar, or your preferred sugar substitute.
