Expert Tips
- Start with a clean grill to prevent the chicken from sticking to the grill.
- Rub your grill grates with oil prior to cooking. This helps keep the chicken from sticking during cooking.
- Preheat your grill! Putting the chicken on the grill after it's been preheated will also help prevent any sticking to the grill.
- To be sure that the chicken is fully cooked, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The chicken leg quarters should reach an internal temperature of 165 °F before serving.
- Always start off with meat that is not frozen. Frozen chicken will take too much time to come to temperature.
Variations
- Spicy BBQ chicken: Add some heat to your BBQ sauce by mixing in some hot sauce, cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes. Brush the sauce on the chicken during the last few minutes of cooking for a spicy kick.
- Citrus BBQ chicken: Mix some orange or lemon juice into your BBQ sauce for a bright, citrusy flavor. Brush the sauce on the chicken during the last few minutes of cooking for a tangy twist.
- Herb BBQ chicken: Mix chopped fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, or parsley into your BBQ sauce for a flavorful herb-infused sauce. Brush the sauce on the chicken during the last few minutes of cooking for a fragrant and flavorful finish.
